1983年,兰州大学生物学系动物学专业理学学士;1986年,中国科学院发育生物学研究所理学硕士;1989年,John Innes Institute 和University of East Anglia博士;1990-1995年,John Innes Centre和University of Oxford博士后。1995-1997年,John Innes Centre 的Sainsbury Laboratory 任Research Scientist。薛勇彪博士系1998年中科院"百人计划"入选者和国家杰出青年科学基金获得者。现任研究所所长、国家973计划"水稻功能基因组学研究"项目首席科学家和《遗传学报》和《遗传》主编,山东农业大学, 北京师范大学,兰州大学和北京大学兼职或客座教授。
